Tadanobu Asano has taken over a lead role in SILENCE. Based on the novel by Shusako Endo, the film centers on a pair of Jesuits who take on the dangerous task of bringing Christianity to 17th Century Japan. Replacing Ken Watanabe, Asano will play an interpreter that accompanies the two Jesuit priests as they search for their mentor. The adaptation is scripted by Martin Scorsese and Jay Cocks, with Scorsese also at the helm.
Asano has had an extensive career in both English-speaking and Non-English speaking films, perhaps best known for his portrayal of the Asgardian warrior Hogun in Thor and Thor: The Dark World. Asano has also appeared in Battleship, 47 Ronin and the live-action adaptation of the animated classic Kiki’s Delivery Service. Up next, Asano will star in the dramas Journey to The Shore, Grasshopper and Regular Boy.
