HBO is moving forward with a second season of its acclaimed comedy series Barry, and the cable network has also given the go-ahead for a sixth season of Silicon Valley.

“Barry feels like something Shane Black might’ve written, but rather than being big, broad and commercial like Black’s early hits, it’s more in line with the crime comedies he’s been making of late, such as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Nice Guys,” writes Jeff Sneider.
A young Barack Obama, known to his friends as “Barry,” arrives in New York City in the fall of 1981 to begin his junior year at Columbia University. In a crime-ridden and racially charged environment, Barry finds himself pulled between various social spheres and struggles to maintain a series of increasingly strained relationships with his Kansas-born mother, his estranged Kenyan father, and his classmates.
Online network Netflix continued its shopping spree over the weekend as it picked up romantic-heist feature Tramps. The film from writer-director Adam Leon had several interested parties including A24, Sony Pictures Classics, and The Orchard.
The half-hour comedy pilot marked the directorial debut of the Saturday Night Live alum. Hader also co-wrote the show with Silicon Valley’s Alex Berg.
Jennifer Hudson, Derek Hough, and Martin Short have signed on for NBC’s Hairspray Live!. The TV event takes place in 1962 Baltimore and follows Tracy Turnblad, who wins a role on TV and becomes a celebrity overnight and meets a colorful array of characters.
Straight Outta Compton breakout star Jason Mitchell and the boy at the center of Boyhood, Ellar Coltrane, have joined the forthcoming Barack Obama biopic Barry.
