DAREDEVIL
I was trying to figure out what on earth I could talk about for the last five episodes of Daredevil since I covered so much of my love affair with this show already. These five episodes rightly conclude the various arcs of the season so everything that tickled me to this point is still here.
This middle section of Daredevil‘s second season is best subtitled as “Matt Fails at Life.” Pretty much every aspect of his non-vigilante persona crashes and burns. It’s glorious.
I got into trouble with just about everyone last year for daring to find Daredevil lacking. So far this season? I adore it. It’s fabulous!
Just when Matt thinks he is bringing order back to the city, new forces are rising in Hell’s Kitchen. Now the Man Without Fear must take on a new adversary in Frank Castle and face an old flame – Elektra Natchios.
On Tuesday, the Visual Effects Society announced the winners of the 14th annual VES Awards. This year’s winners had a heavy hand in creating some of the biggest commercial successes of the year–including blockbuster titles like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Revenant.
The Visual Effects Society is the industry’s only organization representing the full breadth of visual effects artists, animators, technologists and specialists. On Tuesday, the VES announced their nominees for its top honors in visual effects.
NYCC keeps getting bigger and bigger, and this year was the biggest yet with a wealth of panels, new footage, undercover celebrities, and of course, amazing costumes. Here are a few of last week’s many highlights.
Meet Matt Murdock. Blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt fights injustice by day as a respected lawyer and by night as the masked vigilante Daredevil in Hell’s Kitchen, New York. He’ll do anything to make his city a better place, but at what price?
Theo Rossi has signed on as a possible villain and Rosario Dawson commits to befriending all of the local heroes on Netflix.
The iconic character will serve as an adversary/love interest to Charlie Cox’s vision-impaired hero who’s determined to save NYC’s chaotic burrow. The slew of new characters appearing in season two signals that Matt Murdoch’s world is going to get a lot more involved, with new adversaries and love interests sure to complicate his hunt for justice.
Bernthal will play Frank Castle, the fan-favorite anti-hero that isn’t afraid to kill, maim, and torture as he ruthlessly protects the innocent and exacts his vengeance for the death of his family, waging a one-man war against the mob and anyone who stands in his way.
The famed baddie is one of the man without fear’s most notable rogues and fans have been clamoring for his appearance since the series premiered.
The Marvel series, which debuted in April, was massively successful, prompting the streaming network to order a second season. Dawson portrayed fan-favorite character Claire Temple, a nurse who frequently aided Charlie Cox’s masked hero, tending to his wounds.
As a gritty crime drama, Daredevil is superb. As a sci-fi/superhero piece? Not so much.
