humans excerptSeason 2, Episode 4 – Conscious Transference: the scientific endeavor to transfer a human being’s consciousness to an android. This is what Dr. Athena is trying to do for her comatose girlfriend. Milo, the brain behind synthetics, wants her to help him bring this concept to life. Here, Humans paints a blurrier line between synthetics and humans.

when we rise excerptSeason 1, Episode 4 – Night IV of When We Rise ends on a high note. The Defense of Marriage Act is found unconstitutional by the U.S. Supreme Court, affording gay and lesbian couples the right to marry. It is an incredible feat for a movement with beginnings in the 70s.

when we rise excerptSeason 1, Episode 3 – When We Rise continues to struggle in a few areas: 1. The characters’ stories are unbelievably shallow; and 2. They pack way too much in a 2-hour episode. The adult versions of Ken Jones and Cleve Jones are played by Michael K. Williams and Guy Pearce., respectively. Their performances attempt to give more depth, but it still falls short.

when we rise excerptSeason 1, Episode 2 – I have to get this off my chest. Why is the second episode two hours as well? ABC, stop. Now that that’s out of the way, I have to note how amazing Jonathan Majors is. He portrays a young Ken Jones, a gay Black activist in When We Rise. His work, along with Cleve Jones continues.

when we rise excerptSeason 1, Episode 1 – When We Rise is a dramatic series on ABC that chronicles the LGBTQ movement in the early 70s. It is inspired by Cleve Jones’ real-life activist history. While a solid episode, I wish it wasn’t 2 hours. Hollywood, this can’t be a thing.

humans excerptSeason 2, Episode 3 – Humans gives us several more philosophical questions to ponder: Can you fall in love with a synthetic? And if you can, should you? Are emotions the defining factor of consciousness? Should a synthetic have the same legal rights as a human? Although no answers to these questions are clear, here are some theories.

jane the virgin excerptSeason 3, Episode 12 – Jane the Virgin is just so darn good. I’m in love with all of the characters, and this episode makes me fall even deeper. However, Rafael needs to divorce that beard. Petra needs to revert to her evil ways. And Jane, oh Jane, is killing me with all the grief.

humans excerptSeason 2, Episode 2 – Humans continues to challenge the mind into wondering what makes a human a human. Is it merely flesh and blood, the ability to think and feel or is it empathy? As the synthetics grow in consciousness, their paths to what it means to be human vary.

humans excerptSeason 2, Episode 1 – Humans returns for its second season on AMC. I am a new fan of this robots-turn-conscious series, but it is reminiscent of that HBO show. What’s it called? Oh, yes. Westworld. Lucky for Humans, this show stands apart from that one. Here’s how.

the affair excerptSeason 3, Episode 9 – The Affair hands us a surefire psychological and emotional thriller. Noah (Dominic West) needs to be committed, and so does Helen (Maura Tierney). These two are on a fast track to having their kids in therapy for life.
