The director of Me and Earl and the Dying GIrl will helm the biopic about the Canadian owner of some of New York City’s most notorious nightclubs in the ’90s.
Johnson’s Hobbs and Statham’s Deckard Shaw are branching off from the blockbuster Universal franchise for a buddy action-comedy set in the same universe. Leitch’s Deadpool 2 opens next month.
The project will be based on the short story “We Have Always Lived on Mars” by Cecil Castellucci, which follows a woman who discovers she can breathe the air on Mars, upending her world and that of her fellow colonists.
Garland’s wife, Paloma Baeza, will direct the film, which follows an American family who move into an old Victorian house in London and begin to believe it might be haunted.
