Amandla Stenberg has scored the lead in the film adaptation of The Hate U Give, the debut novel from Angela Thomas. The YA novel is inspired by the Black Lives Movement and will be directed by George Tillman Jr.
The story follows Starr, a 16-year old girl who grows up in the slums but now attends an upper class prep school in the suburbs. When she witnesses a police officer shoot an unarmed friend, her world is turned upside down.
