Season 2, Episode 10 – I just reviewed a show that had me in tears. “Better Things” continues this pattern as everyone prepares for Max’s high school graduation.
Season 2, Episode 9 – In Better Things, Sam and the kids visit their Uncle Lester and his wife in White Rock. They discover something new, and so does Uncle Lester – Sam didn’t tell her mother, his sister, that they were visiting. Ha.
Season 2, Episode 8 – When I was a kid, talking smack to my mother was not allowed. In “Better Things,” Frankie doesn’t just talk smack to Sam, she insults her. And rightly so, Sam assaults her. But it’s the 2017 version of assault (calm down).
Season 2, Episode 6 – Sam wishes that her children appreciated her. In order for them to do so, they stage her funeral in Thursday’s episode of “Better Things.”
Season 2, Episode 5 – Phil is the center of attention on “Better Things”, and she likes it that way, proven by the fact that she steps into a hole on purpose.
Season 2, Episode 3 – Ooo, Sam might be in like with someone in “Better Things” when she has a rendezvous without their kids in wine country, and it’s surprisingly pleasant.
Season 2, Episode 1 – Better Things opens its season 2 on Thursday with chaos – Max is dating a 35-year-old man, and like any normal mother, Sam is not here for it. Oh, did I mention Max is 16? And Duke is a creep.
Season 1, Episode 10 – How can Better Things out-do itself in the revolutionary department? Include a story-line about Frankie (Hannah Alligood) believing she’s a boy. Uh – yeah. That’s the finale.
Season 1, Episode 9 – Thursday’s episode of Better Things has a strange name: “Hair of the Dog.” I don’t get it, but the episode is actually strange in the way Sam (Pamela Adlon) interacts with characters of color. Here’s a thinkpiece that you aren’t expecting. IMO. IJS.
Season 1, Episode 8 – Better Things offers us another solid episode of the quintessential mother-daughters relationship. All three kids stereotypically act their age, and Sam (Pamela Adlon) addresses each one in ways we’ve come to expect: with a combination of cussing and hugs.
Season 1, Episode 7 – “Duke’s Chorus” isn’t really about Duke’s Chorus. It’s a lesson on how to unapologetically be yourself on this episode of Better Things. This includes temporarily freeing a Mormon lady from strict religious beliefs. P.S. she cusses.
Season 1, Episode 6 – Better Things confirms why it’s such a great show – Sam. I am convinced she is a superhero. Dealing with a deadbeat baby daddy; a mother who may be a candidate for Alzheimer’s; and a best friend whose husband is cheating on her are all reasons to slap an ‘S’ on her chest.
Season 1, Episode 5 – Mother-daughter relationships are the theme for Thursday’s episode of Better Things. It’s not as funny, but this theme is needed for us to fall in love with all of the characters.
Season 1, Episode 3 – Last night’s episode of Better Things features Lenny Kravitz as Mel Trueblood. The first time an actor of color appears on this show, and of course, there’s an awkward black joke.
Season 1, Episode 2 – This week’s episode of Better Things was a disappointment. The funny was missing, but there is hope that protagonist Sam will step it up on the next one.
Season 1, Episode 1 – Better Things lets us inside the whirlwind life of Sam, a divorced single mother of 3, working her way up in Hollywood. This all sounds tragic, but it’s damn funny.
