Ed Brubaker’s gritty comic follows a depressed college student who tries to kill himself, only to be given a new lease on life by a demon who tells him he must kill one person each month if he wants to continue living. The young man figures if he’s forced to kill to survive, he might as well take out some bad people.

Casey has a lot of heat right now, and Sony is already working with him on Fede Alvarez’s Incognito. He did a rewrite on Bad Robot’s hit thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane and was recently hired by Fox 2000 to adapt Larry Niven’s short story Inconstant Moon for director James Ponsoldt.

After scoring eight Oscar nominations on Tuesday for Arrival, producer Shawn Levy is looking to stay in the realm of science-fiction. Along with his 21 Laps banner, Levy will produce an untitled sci-fi pitch, which has been acquired by Fox 2000. James Ponsoldt will direct based on a script by Daniel Casey.

The big screen adaptation of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips’ comic Incognito has tapped up and coming screenwriter Daniel Casey to work on the script. The project was previously in development at 20th Century Fox with Robert Schenkkan scripting. Now at Sony, Fede Alvarez and his writing partner, Rodo Sayagues penned the latest draft.

Revolves around a recently released ex-con and his adopted younger brother who are forced to go on the run. Chased by a vengeful criminal, the feds and a cadre of otherworldly soldiers, their only protection is a found weapon of mysterious ancestry.

After hearing about the death of his son, an aging ex-con is forced out of his self-imposed isolation to protect the only family he has left and avenge the son he hardly knew.
