Miramax announced on Tuesday it has “won the bid to option” film rights for Matthew Quick’s The Reason You’re Alive. Allison Shearmur is attached to produce with Quick set to adapt the book for the screen.

Christmas has arrived early this year with Miramax and Broad Green Pictures announcing that Billy Bob Thornton is returning for Bad Santa 2, the sequel to the 2003 movie that also starred Tony Cox, Lauren Graham, and the late Bernie Mac and John Ritter.

The position was newly created by the studio. He will report to Zanne Devine, Executive Vice President of Film & TV. Thwaites has served as the executive producer on the Natalie Portman thriller “Black Swan”.
