This past television season, The CW premiered new series No Tomorrow, Frequency, Riverdale, and CBS series Supergirl joined the schedule for its second season. The network took a pretty similar approach with their choices this year with Life Sentence, Valor, Dynasty, and Black Lightning.
The CW is following a similar strategy as last year, shifting a critically acclaimed series to Friday night to make way for new series. Last year, they moved Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and this year it’s Jane the Virgin‘s turn.
With last year’s pilots Frequency and No Tomorrow both unlikely to see renewals, The CW is looking for a big hit that isn’t attached to the DC universe and can add to the critical clout they’ve gained with Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin.
