While ABC, NBC, and CBS delivered trailers depicting heartfelt stories with executives talking brand safety online, CW instead focused their upfront presentation on the heartfelt message that has been winning viewers for years.

The CW is following a similar strategy as last year, shifting a critically acclaimed series to Friday night to make way for new series. Last year, they moved Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and this year it’s Jane the Virgin‘s turn.

Like their network rivals NBC, CBS brought the star power to their upfront presentation as chairman and CEO Les Moonves and company presented their wares for fall to their advertiser audience. CBS performers Stephen Colbert, Young Sheldon‘s Iain Armitage, James Corden, David Boreanaz, Shemar Moore, and more took the stage.

CBS unveils their 2017 fall show trailers at their upfront presentation, along with Star Trek: Discovery which, after a few setbacks, is finally ready to bow in just a few months.

Cabler TNT is hoping to make big waves in the next year as it made clear at the Turner upfronts presentation, where they unveiled a slate that refocuses the network’s brand on high-end drama series and unscripted projects that are documentary-centric. Meanwhile, TBS is continuing to evolve its brand of comedy with talk show host Conan O’Brien showing the network’s ability to grow.

While ABC was presenting its fall schedule at its upfront presentation, some of the biggest news at their event was regarding the lineup for 2018. Furthest out are the Academy Awards, which will again be hosted by late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.

ABC is bringing back TGIF, but not with the kinds of multi-cam sitcoms that defined it in the 90s, but with family-friendly dramas. With Once Upon a Time resetting for its seventh season, where it will have a creative reset, and will move from Sundays to Friday where it will be the lead in for Marvel’s Inhumans.

NBCUniversal put on a big show at their upfront presentation this morning as it paraded a stream of stars for advertisers including Seth Meyers, Megyn Kelly, Jennifer Hudson, the stars of Will & Grace, and more. Energy was high at the event as the network came off a big year with breakout hit This is Us and snagging Megyn Kelly from Fox News.

Fox keeps Marvel and DC separate on the schedule and shifts Lethal Weapon to lead on Tuesdays as a lead in for The Mick and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Click here to see Fox’s full fall schedule.

The peacock network is working hard to bring Must See TV back to Thursday nights as we see in the schedule for released for this fall. The Will & Grace revival will take its place kickstarting Thursdays where it will be joined by Great News and the sophomore season of breakout hit This is Us.

The ABC Black-ish spinoff is nearing a series order but it won’t be on the alphabet’s schedule next fall. Instead, the single-camera comedy starring Yara Shahidi is set to land at sibling network Freeform where execs view the younger-skewing series as a better fit.

Marvel series The Gifted has become the first series order for Fox. The project hails from writer Matt Nix and X-Men director Bryan Singer, and stars Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker. The network also released a teaser ahead of their upfront presentation.

The 100 star Zach McGowan has signed on to headline and produce Ni’ihau with shooting set to begin later this month. Shortly after the announcement though, the project began criticism for McGowan’s casting as the real life Ben Kanahele, a Hawaiian island leader, with many citing the news as another example of “white-washing.”

Orange is the New Black is gearing up to return for season five this summer and will attempt to do something the women of Litchfield have never done: unite.

The 26th annual MTV Movie Awards was not its usual event this weekend as it was the first time it combined movie and television categories and removed gendered categories. Beauty and the Beast was the big winner of the night, taking home multiple statues and being the inspiration for the event’s opening number.

Bill Holderman’s directorial debut Book Club has added Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, and Candice Bergen to headline. Holderman penned the comedy with Erin Simms and the pair will produce with Andrew Duncan and Alex Saks from June Pictures.

As the war for the iron throne is entering the final act, and final seasons, HBO is not ready to say goodbye to Game of Thrones and has put four different series in development based on the Westeros universe.

With the instant critical and viewer praise for The Handmaid’s Tale, the attitude was upbeat at the Hulu presentation at Upfronts. In addition to Handmaid’s Tale, the streaming network announced the big acquisition of the SVOD rights of This is Us and Atlanta, two of the biggest hits of the last year.

New media company Defy Media is continuing to expand with its in-house brands as it announced three new titles from flagship brand Smosh. Defy’s other most popular brands include Clevver and ScreenJunkies, who both presented new series for 2017.

Recent boycott calls for YouTube marketers hang over Disney and Maker Studios New Front presentation, which sought to bring a positive future through re-branding as the Disney Digital Network.

Classic ABC sitcom Roseanne is in the works for a limited revival with original stars Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Sara Gilbert, and Laurie Metcalf in talks to return. The series joins a growing list of sitcom revivals and reboots including Will & Grace at NBC and Fuller House on Netflix.

Bad Robot is teaming up with actor Jesse Eisenberg on the single-camera comedy The Market. Eisenberg will star in, write, and direct the project which hails from Warner Bros. TV.

Hidden Figures writer-director Ted Melfi has sold the dark, holiday comedy El Camino Christmas to Netflix. Melfi wrote the script with Chris Wehner and has lined up a solid cast for the ensemble.

Streaming site Hulu has netted single-camera comedy The Way I Am from Casual showrunner Liz Tigelaar and musician Ingrid Michaelson in a competitive situation. The script was penned by duo and Michaelson is attached to star.

Season 4, Episode 1 – Silicon Valley returns with the team ready to get to work on a “new Pied Piper” utilizing Dinesh’s video chat, but Richard can’t let go of his algorithm or control leading to a big shift in the company hierarchy.

Suicide Squad star Margot Robbie is in negotiations to portray Queen Elizabeth in Mary Queen of Scots. Saoirse Ronan will take on the title role in the project from Focus Features and Working Title.

Newt Scamander’s brother is set to join the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with Callum Turner in talks for the role. The film will see Eddie Redmayne return to play Newt and will be joined by Jude Law as Dumbledore.

Fox is bringing back The X-Files with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, and creator Chris Carter as showrunner and executive producer, for a ten-episode run in the 2017-2018 season.

We’ll be honest, this one was tough. There’s no Jay and Silent Bob, no Annie Hall, no one from Dazed and Confused, no Woody Harrelson, or even Seth Rogen! Hell, the guys from Friday didn’t even make this list, but they sure would’ve been the Honorable Mention… if we were doing one of those.

Just a day after the premiere of Freeform’s flagship show Pretty Little Liars‘ final season, the network presented to advertisers their plans for the future, with several comedy projects in the works to take their lineup beyond the young melodramas they’re known for.
