Between April 1st and April 30th, we tracked a total of 22 feature specs out. While it’s a positive from last April, it’s continuing our steady decline of specs from the past couple of months. We’ve seen a 12% decrease in specs from March’s count. We’ve continued to decrease in specs since February, wherein in a traditional market, we’d see increases in April, a hot month for the material.

20th Century Fox Animation is moving forward with Zita the Spacegirl. The studio has secured the rights to the graphic novel trilogy from Ben Hatke and intend to turn the series into a feature-length adaptation at Chernin Entertainment.

Described as a potential tentpole adventure movie using the Shakespeare universe, the tone is Pirates of the Caribbean meets Snow White and the Huntsman.

Logline: After learning of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity, a space-obsessed 12-year-old comes up with a crazy plan to save his cancer-stricken father: build a spaceship that will travel fast enough to slow down his aging, and therefore the spread of his cancer. He’ll team up with an unhinged former astronaut who claims to know how to make it happen… and in the process, maybe just learn how to say goodbye. A coming-of-age story in the vein of Super 8, Stand By Me, and E.T.
