Tony Nominee Liesl Tommy Directing “Born a Crime” as Trevor Noah Signs Overall Deal with Viacom
Oscar-winning actor Lupita Nyong’o will produce and play Noah’s mother in the film based on the South African comedian’s book.
Based on true events and an original story by Maria Bello, the film tells the story of Nanisca (Davis), General of the all-female military unit known as the Amazons, and her daughter Nawi (Nyong’o), who together fought the French and neighboring tribes who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they’ve lived for.
Chronicles the life and career of comedian, Noah, as a mixed race child born during apartheid rule in South Africa.
Lupita Nyong’o can currently be seen in Marvel/Disney’s record smashing hit Black Panther.
