Disney’s Live-Action “Mulan” Casts Two of China’s Biggest Stars
Gong Li and Jet Li join the live action film based on the 1998 animated feature, which will be directed by Whale Rider director Niki Caro.
Yen will play Commander Tung, a mentor, and teacher to Mulan. He joins previously announced cast member Liu Yifeil as the titular character.
Disney also removed Anna Kendrick’s fantasy comedy Noelle from its release calendar. It had been planned for a holiday release on Nov. 8, 2019, but it’s now expected to debut on Disney’s forthcoming streaming service.
Chinese actress Liu YiFei (Crystal Liu) has been cast in the lead role in Disney’s live-action Mulan.
Original Wonder Woman director Michelle MacLaren and her eventual replacement, Patty Jenkins, were both reportedly considered for the gig, but Caro is the more thoughtful choice.
