Pretty Little Liars wraps up a flawed but ambitious half-season with some very good moments and some very bad ones.
PLL stumbles into the final stretch.
“We need to cut ties with Ali. Tonight.”
It took 3/4 of a season, but plot twists are once again the name of the game.
The show pulls out one of the favorite dramatic tools in its arsenal, the sexual overture from an attached and much-older man, with diminishing results.
Aria is the most conspicuous spy ever; Emily’s mom gets a clue; Spencer and Ezra have a moment; and Hanna and Caleb develop His and Hers drinking problems.
We need to talk about Ezra.
“Pretty Little Liars” delivers a stellar 100th episode by letting the characters’ actions speak for themselves.
This season has shown that sometimes, when it comes to plot, less is more.
Hanna realizes she’s accidentally “Single White Female”-ed Ali; Emily gets a stalker of a more mundane kind; Aria enters the “repeat” phase of her eternal lather-rinse-repeat with Ezra; and Spencer explores the medieval Italian drama in her own backyard.
“Now all of a sudden, we’re back on Planet Alison. It’s like it’s ninth grade all over again, and we’re on the Whirly Girly ride.”
We won’t tell your friends if you won’t tell ours.
