Jack Black is set to take on the world of polka in The Man Who Would Be Polka King. Black will produce and star in the feature based on the documentary by Joshua Brown and John Mikulak.
Stiller’s Red Hour Films is producing the comedy based on Libby Malin’s novel about an aspiring entrepreneur who attempts to get herself fired from a company in order to receive severance money to start her own business.
Ben Stiller has picked up the action-comedy spec The Set Up from rising screenwriter Kari Granlund. Stiller will produce through his Red Hour Films, which recently inked a financing deal with Bold Films.
Logline: Story centers on the 2006 Caltech men’s basketball team who went 21 seasons without winning a single conference game until a group of brainiacs, future world political and industrial titans tried to overcome a lack of athletic skills by recruiting an exiled NCAA coach to lead their team to what seemed, for two decades, an impossible dream: one win.
Logline: When, after 40-years of marriage, Maggie and David Loony bring their three grown children together to announce their divorce, it thrusts the children into a world of emotional turmoil, as they attempt to rediscover themselves, their relationships both inside and out of the family, and their place in life’s plan… if there even is one.
Logline: Centers on a fan cruise held in honor of “The Children of Castor,” a fictitious 1980s post apocalyptic sci-fi TV series. The cast is the guest of honor, but they’ve got mixed feelings, specifically dependent on whose career stalled with the series, and who went on to bigger and better things.
