Season 2, Episode 6 – In a rare misstep for a great show, Superstore gives us an average episode that demonstrates just how much this workplace comedy owes The Office. Cloud Nine hosts a dog adoption day, while Amy and Glenn help Cheyenne and Beau with their relationship.
Season 2, Episode 4 – Superstore delivers another hilarious episode as Jonah is forced to work the gun counter despite his objections to guns, Glenn buys all the morning after pills in the store, and Garret, Dina, and Matteo deal with an intruding crow.
Season 2, Episode 3 – The added pressure of a visiting district manager provides for some hilarious situations on Superstore, as Glenn tries to act tough, Mateo tries to make a lasting impression, and Amy tries to cover up the fact that an employee chopped their thumb off on her watch.
It’s been a busy week for TV renewals. Today, the Jenna Coleman-led ITV and PBS series Victoria got renewed for Season 2 and the NBC sitcom Superstore starring America Ferrera received an extra nine episodes.
What a way to end a season! Superstore expertly balanced absurdity with sincerity in a standout episode that takes on Cloud Nine’s corporate overlords, as the team stages a walkout protesting Glenn being fired over trying to find a backdoor way of giving Cheyenne paid maternity leave.
Superstore only has two more episodes left in its trimmed first season, with no word from the network on its renewal status. Both NBC’s The Office and Parks and Recreation had faltering freshman seasons, but grew into their own in their second. Hopefully NBC gives Superstore the chance to do the same.
This week the Cloud 9 crew had a lot to handle: a death in the store, a shoplifter who refused to confess, and the growing pains of pre-teen girl’s adolescence…otherwise known as “what to do (and what not to do) when a girl gets her first period.” Better still, it’s the first episode of Superstore where we finally feel the heartfelt camaraderie of the team.
As the title of the latest episode, “Mannequin”, suggests, the show continues to build on the flirty relationship between store veteran Amy (America Ferrera) and store newbie Jonah (Ben Feldman) via a mannequin in the store that bares a freakishly, uncanny resemblance to Jonah.
A round-up of the week’s TV news!
