Steven Spielberg has been tapped to direct the movie adaptation of The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara at Amblin Entertainment. The book, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Kertzer, will be adapted for the screen by Tony Kushner.

Mykelti Williamson and Russell Hornsby have officially signed on to join the Paramount Pictures’ adaptation of August Wilson’s Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play, Fences. The two will reprise their roles they played in the Broadway revival.

Fifty years after his death, a woman sets out to learn about her largely absent father, who researched manic depression and suffered from depression himself.

Set in 1858, the story follows a young Jewish boy in Bologna, Italy who was secretly baptized and taken from his family and raised as a Christian. The story will focus on his parents’ struggle to free their son which later becomes a political battle.
