On the same day that his upcoming Jennifer Garner action film Peppermint has been dated by STXfilms for a Sept. 7 release, French director Pierre Morel (Taken) has been attached to his next project. Morel will direct the sci-fi thriller THE NEW MRS. KELLER for Lakeshore Entertainment with Claes Bang, the Danish breakout star of the Oscar-nominated The Square, as the film’s lead.
Written by Mark Hogan, the film is set in the near future where a beautiful woman named Vera Keller traps her surgeon husband Dr. David Keller in a deception that mixes reality with virtual reality.
Lakeshore Entertainment, who also produced Morel’s upcoming film Peppermint, bought the spec script for The New Mrs. Keller in a bidding war last year with plans to present the project to buyers at Cannes in May.
Repped by UTA and Sentient Entertainment, Morel comes out of the Luc Besson camp of French action filmmakers, having worked as a cinematographer on many of Besson’s films, as well as those directed by Louis Letterier, before director the Besson-produced District B13 and then the hit Taken starring Liam Neeson.
Bang, who was one of a couple big discoveries out of this year’s foreign language Oscar race, will next be seen opposite Claire Foy in the Sony and MGM reboot The Girl in the Spider’s Web. He is represented by UTA, Felix Bloch, Erben, Agentur und Management and Sharkey & Co.
