Taraji P. Henson has signed on to play Katherine Johnson, a real-life mathematics genius, in HIDDEN FIGURES from Fox 2000. The project will be helmed by St. Vincent director Ted Melfi.
The film is based on the book Hidden Figures: The Story Of The African-American Women Who Helped Win The Space Race by Margot Lee Shetterly. It centers on Johnson who, along with her colleagues Dorothy Vaughn and Mary Jackson, served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in U.S. history – the momentous launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit, and his safe return. The three women crossed all gender, race, and professional lines while embarking on the mission.
Melfi produces the film alongside Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping of Chernin Entertainment and Levantine Films’ Donna Gigliotti. Elizabeth Gabler and Marisa Paiva will oversee for Fox 2000.
Henson recently won a Golden Globe for her starring role in Fox’s hit series Empire and previously starred CBS series Person Of Interest.
She is repped by UTA and Vincent Cirrincione Associates.
