THE DEATH AND LIFE OF JOHN F. DONOVAN continues to add to its already extensive cast with Taylor Kitsch. He joins Jessica Chastain, Kit Harington, Susan Sarandon, and Kathy Bates. Singer Adele will also cameo.
The film centers on a young actor who recalls the secretive correspondence he shared as a teenager with an American TV star who died 10 years earlier. The story explores the hardships of family and the never-ending hurdles of the movie business, and reflects on issues of identity and diversity in Hollywood over the past decade.
Harington is set to star as the titular character with Chastain as the editor-in-chief of a gossip magazine. No word yet on the specifics of Kitsch’s role.
The film is directed by Xavier Dolan who will be making his English-language debut with the feature. He won raves for his previous feature Mommy. His next film, It’s Only The End Of The World stars Marion Cotillard, Lea Seydoux, and Vincent Cassel.
Donovan will be produced by Dolan through his banner, Sons Of Manual, with his producing partner Nancy Grant and Lyse Lafontaine of Lyla Films. Joe Iacono will executive produce.
CAA is handling U.S. rights while Entertainment One’s Seville International handles foreign rights.
Kitsch was most recently seen in season two of HBO’s True Detective. He is repped by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
