〉 Oscar winners Nat Faxon and Jim Rash will direct from their own script
Former Saturday Night Live star Bill Hader will play opposite Sally Field in the Thanksgiving family comedy THE BIRCHES, written and to be directed by Academy Award-winning writing duo Nat Faxon and Jim Rash. Fox Searchlight is producing.
The film centers around middle child Wes Birch (Hader), who travels back to his hilariously dysfunctional childhood home for Thanksgiving and butts heads with his stubborn-as-a-mule mother (Field).
The Birches marks the second stint behind the camera for Faxon and Rash, who continue to push their multi-hyphenate status in addition to starring roles in television comedies Married and Community, respectively. Given the team’s directorial debut The Way, Way Back, we can expect the holiday-themed Birches to provide a hearty helping of nostalgic dramedy.
This means that Hader, fresh off of his role in the summer’s hit comedy Trainwreck, will continue to keep one foot in the dramatic world, after his work in the Sundance favorite The Skeleton Twins received widespread critical praise. As for two-time Oscar-winner Field, her involvement further maintains her balancing act between big budget features like The Amazing Spider Man 2 and more personal projects, like the upcoming Michael Showalter drama Hello, My Name Is Doris, in which she’ll play the titular role.
