The story, a darkly tragic comedy, follows a somewhat estranged family as they reunite over their father’s disappearance and their mother’s pill addiction. The script was initially adapted by the playwright herself, Tracy Letts, with the most recent draft written by helmer John Wells.
Cooper will play Charles Aiken, the missing patriarch’s good friend and brother-in-law. His acting resume is long and varied, but Cooper’s most memorable role in recent times was as the villainous Tex Richman in “The Muppets”. Director Wells is best known for his work on the television shows “ER” and, more recently, “Shameless”.
The pic is being produced by Wells’s company, John Wells Productions, alongside Smokehouse and Jean Doumanian Pictures, under the Weinstein banner. The long list of producers includes George Clooney – with Bob Weinstein, Jerry Frankel and Jeffrey Richards exec. producing.
The project is set to start filming mid-September in Oklahoma, wrapping in early November.
