Focus Features and Colin Firth’s Raindog Films are set to produce comedy PUNK IN A GREY SUIT. Based on the NPR piece Punk In A Grey Flannel Suit, it follows an uptight mortgage broker who discovers that his old punk band from the 1970s is all the rage in Japan. He decides to ditch his corporate life and revisit his teenage years by going back on tour, playing music for the first time in two decades.
Firth and Oliver Kramer will produce for Raindog, with Firth likely looking to star. The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel scribe Ol Parker is set to adapt the story, which originally appeared on the popular program This American Life, hosted by Ira Glass. Shine Pictures’ Ollie Madden will also produce, with Josh McLaughlin overseeing for Focus.
While Firth is not yet confirmed to star, he is set to appear in all but one of the upcoming films on Raindog’s slate, including thriller Eye in the Sky, which follows a complex international anti-terrorism operation that goes awry and also stars Helen Mirren and Aaron Paul, and The Happy Prince, a comedic biopic about author Oscar Wilde with Rupert Everett and Emily Watson.
Parker is currently adapting novel Sorta Like a Rockstar for Fox Searchlight as well as rewriting Diablo Cody’s romantic comedy Time and a Half, which he is also set to direct.
