EXCLUSIVE 〉 The “Unfaithful” star will make her debut as a producer on the sci-fi remake.
Warner Bros. and Atlas Entertainment are currently in development on a remake of the 1983 sci-fi film BRAINSTORM, with Diane Lane set to star. Lane, Andy Horwitz and Chuck Roven are set to produce the project, which marks Lane’s first producing credit. Cate Adams will oversee for the studio. The story follows a research team that is tasked to develop a way to record the sensory experiences and emotions of humans, only to find out that their research has been exploited for military purposes.
The original film was released by MGM in 1983 and starred Christopher Walken, Natlie Wood and Louise Fletcher. It was written by Phillip Frank Messina and Robert Stitzel, with a story from Bruce Joel Rubin. The pic was helmed by Douglas Trumbull, who’s famous for his special effects work on the films 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, Star Trek: The Movie and The Tree Of Life. The film is notable for being screen legend Natalie Wood’s final production, as she passed away during the filming, leading to a number of re-writes and re-shoots.
Warner Bros. is currently in development on another remake of an early 80’s MGM sci-fi classic, Logan’s Run. The studio is looking for new ways re-introduce the classic sci-fi properties to contemporary audiences. The Tracking Board exclusively revealed that the Logan’s Run remake is currently being re-developed for a female lead.
Known for her roles in Unfaithful and The Perfect Storm, Lane made her feature film debut in the 1979 comedy A Little Romance, starring alongside Laurence Olivier. Lane gained popularity for portraying the character of Cherry Valance in the Francis Ford Coppola adaptation of The Outsiders. She recently played the role of Martha Kent in the Superman film Man Of Steel and will reprise her role in the highly anticipated sequel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice.
Sounds amazing. I loved the original film, but BRAINSTORM is definitely ripe for a remake. DIANE LANE is great casting. She’s a great actress and even reminds me of Natalie Wood.
