〉Berman’s Jackal Group signed a first-look deal with the studio in February
Gail Berman is producing TURN OF MIND, based on the New York Times’ bestselling thriller by Alice LaPlante. Berman will produce under her Jackal Group banner. Published in 2012, the novel received overwhelmingly positive reception, and was named Newsday’s best book of the year. Marisa Paiva will oversee the project for Fox 2000, with Rory Koslow overseeing for The Jackal Group.
Turn Of Mind follows retired orthopedic surgeon Jennifer White, who is suffering from dimensia. As the story opens, Jennifer’s best friend, Amanda, has been murdered, and four of her fingers have been surgically removed. Jennifer is suddenly the prime suspect. To complicate matters, in her condition, she is not sure whether she has committed the murder or not. LaPlante’s intense writing puts the audience in the mind frame of Jennifer, crafting an intense thrill ride.
In February, Berman’s company signed a first look feature film deal with Fox 2000. The deal was struck in addition to a television deal that was made in 2014, when Berman signed with Fox Networks Group to develop digital and television projects for 21st Century Fox TV. Berman is a television veteran, having been an executive producer on numerous hit series, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the spinoff series Angel. Her move into features is now in full effect with a number of high profile projects already on her slate, including an untitled Elvis Presley biopic with Baz Luhrmann attached to direct, and the thriller The Seventh Juror.
