Game of Thrones co-executive producer Vince Gerardis and Studio 8 are bringing long-running book series GUARDIANS OF THE FLAME to the screen. The books follow a group of college students who participate in a role-playing game led by their professor. When their professor transports them to a magical world where the game is very real, they must fight to survive. Penned by Joel Rosenberg, the series features 10 novels and ran for 20 years, beginning in 1983. Kevin Cleary will executive produce through his shingle Pooka Productions, while Matthew Kennedy of Created By will produce.
Besides his work on HBO’s Game of Thrones, Gerardis has produced Jumper and is the principal at Created By. His company has several projects in development, including the sci-fi novel adaptation End of Eternity with K/O Paper Products producing and sci-fi thriller Brain Wave with Radar Pictures.
Representing Studio 8 are Jeff Robinov, principal, and Jon Silk, executive of development. Studio 8 has a five year distribution deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Former Warner Bros. chief Robinov has worked on on The Lego Movie, Her, Gravity, and dozens more. Silk has served as executive VP of production and development at Mythology and senior VP of production at Lin Pictures. He’s produced The Hole and Gangster Squad most recently.
Upcoming for Studio 8 is biopic White Boy Rick with LBI Entertainment, turning Joe White’s short The Brainhack into a feature length film, and highly-anticipated war movie Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk from Ang Lee.
