Writer Alexander Felix has just been tapped to adapt VICIOUS, the V.E. Schwab novel about human experimentation with deadly superpowers. Scott Free and Story Mining and Supply Co. bought the rights last December after Allison Gillogly put in a bid for the book shortly after it hit bookshelves. SM&SC’s Jeffrey Sharp and Evan Hayes will produce the film, alongside Ridley Scott, Michael Schaefer, and Gillogly.
This is yet another promising leap for Felix after the attention he gained in 2013 for his spec script “Where Angels Die.” He was featured on the 2013 Young & Hungry List, The Hit List, and Blacklist, and signed with CAA and managers Brooklyn Weaver and Tom Carter as a result.
His adaptation will prove interesting, as the plot is filled with heightened drama on all levels. The story follows two ambitious pre-med students who discover that under the correct circumstances, people can develop immense superpowers. Their experiments end up going terribly wrong, however, and with their friendship on the brink of collapse, must overcome the new obstacle that now stands in their way – the fact that they are now both superhuman.
Scott Free currently has over 10 projects in development, including a remake of “Death Wish,” and an “Untitled Prometheus Sequel,” along with “Child 44” awaiting release. Their other recent credits include “Out of the Furnace,” “Before I Go to Sleep,” “Prometheus,” and “The Grey.” SM&SC also has 10 projects in development, including “The Yellow Birds” with Benedict Cumberbatch and “Vikings.”
Stay glued to the Tracking Board for any further developments on the project, as Felix has been on the cusp of something big for a while, and a pairing with Sir Scott may be just what he needs to jump from industry favorite to household name!
