Described as The Maze Runner meets Scott Westerfeld, the first entry in the new series follows a group of teens held captive in a human zoo run by an extraterrestrial race. The story’s told from the perspective of a teen awakening in the caged world who falls in love with one of her captors, forcing her to decide whether to escape and leave her friends behind or to band with them.

Shepherd’s The Madman’s Daughter trilogy has received numerous accolades, landing on several Best-Of lists, including making the American Booksellers Association: New Voices. The series, which has also made several lists for best Children’s series, has been optioned by Paramount Pictures, with Fake Empire producing. reps Shepherd.

Ball made his directorial debut with 20th Century Fox’s Maze Runner adaptation, and is currently filming the second entry, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials.  Up next, the emerging writer/director will helm a feature adaptation of his sci-fi short Ruin for Fox. Ball is repped by and Gotham Group.
