Jessica Chastain has signed on to star in the two-hander comedy PLUS ONE from The Weinstein Company and Gloria Sanchez Productions. The studio is interested in Amy Schumer to play her co-star. Written by April Prosser, the story follows a woman named Rachel that finds herself lost after coming out of a long term relationship. With all of her closest friends married, she has no choice but to turn to her wild and crude acquaintance Summer to be her wing-woman and get her back into the dating scene.
Jessica Elbaum, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay are set to produce the comedy, along with Harvey Weinstein. Sources confirm that the Weinstein Co. is waiting to land a director until after Chastain’s co-star is officially cast.
The film marks a genre departure for Chastain, who has become known for her dramatic roles in The Help and Zero Dark Thirty, both of which earned her Oscar nominations. She broke into the public eye with her praised performance in the 2011 Terrence Malick drama The Tree Of Life, and has continued to solidify her A-list status with several Oscar nods and high-profile roles in the films Interstellar and A Most Violent Year. Chastain is next starring in the upcoming gothic horror Crimson Peak for director Guillermo del Toro, who served as a producer on her previous horror outing, Mama.
Schumer has become in high demand as of late, gaining attention through her stand up and hit Comedy Central series Inside Amy Schumer. She will make her big screen breakout with the upcoming Judd Apatow-directed comedy Trainwreck, which she also scripted. She is set to star in a currently untitled comedy from producer Paul Feig, who kickstarted a new era of female driven comedies with the Kristen Wiig film Bridesmaids, and has gone on to direct the Melissa McCarthy comedies The Heat and Spy.
