Joel Kinnaman is set to star in Blumhouse Productions’ UNTITLED JOEL EDGERTON/BLUMHOUSE PROJECT. Originally known as Weirdo, the passion project was written by Edgerton and marks his directorial debut. The highly-anticipated psychological thriller follows a former jock named Simon, who’s past comes to terrorize him in the form of an awkward, overtly friendly high school classmate with suspicious motives. Kinnaman will star as Simon, a confident newlywed with a seemingly perfect life. Edgerton will star as Gordo, the ungainly man who bears a terrible grudge against Simon for bullying him as a youth. Rebecca Hall was previously announced to star as Robyn, who’s married to Simon and holds a soft spot for Gordo. After infrequent updates since the project’s announcement in 2012, the contained thriller is now expected to start shooting later this month. Edgerton, Rebecca Yeldham, and Jason Blum will produce for Blumhouse.
Kinnaman, a veteran of the thriller genre, recently made waves with his gripping performance in the crime/mystery series The Killing. The Swedish actor has also held roles in The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Safe House, The Darkest Hour, and the Swedish film series Easy Money and Johan Falk. On a career high note, he notably landed the lead role in last year’s Robocop remake. Coming next, he’ll star in Child 44 opposite Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy, the action/drama Run All Night opposite Liam Neeson, and Terrence Malick’s drama Knight of Cups.
