〉The fantasy novel concerns magic and parallel dimensions.
Lin Pictures has just picked up hot new fantasy novel A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC. Written by Victoria Schwab, the fantasy adventure takes place in a universe with multiple parallel London cities designated by color, some with magic, but all vastly different. A traveler-magician who covets the ability to hop between dimensions becomes forced to team up with an unlikely street thief to save all of the worlds from a growing threat. Dan Lin is set to produce the fantasy epic, with Jonathan Eirich and Mark Bauch overseeing development.
Published just this past February by Tor Books, the novel quickly earned critical acclaim and reader accolades for its fresh approach to the fantasy genre. Publishers Weekly gave the outing a star review, while The Independent and I09 each praised the imaginative adventure, which marks Schwab’s second adult venture.
Perhaps best known for her first adult novel Vicious, published under the moniker V.E. Schwab, the commended author has also written several YA novels, including The Near Witch, The Archived, and The Unbound. In 2014, she penned the children’s fantasy series Everyday Angel with Scholastic. Having worked with Disney-Hyperion, Tor Books, and Scholastic in the past, Schwab is next set to continue her two-year deal signed with Tor in 2014, with A Darker Shade Of Magic serving as the first entry in an intended series.
Lin Pictures’ most recent credits include Warner Bros.’ animated hit The Lego Movie, the Robert Downey Jr./Jude Law Sherlock Holmes series, and Josh Brolin’s Gangster Squad. Next up on the packed slate, Lin is set to produce a handful of priority projects including Sherlock Holmes 3, The Lego Movie Sequel, a Robin Hood pic with Warner Bros., and It’s A Small World for Disney, based on the ride.
Schwab is repped by CAA and Waxman Literary.
