Ted Sperling, the writer behind the Top Voted Comedy in the 2014 Launch Pad Pilots Competition has officially become our 7th writer to land reps in the past 3 days, after signing with Angelina Chen at Energy Entertainment. Sperling’s pilot GARRET GOES TO WASHINGTON, which is pitched as a ‘reverse’ “Fresh Prince of Bel Air”, was one of the most in demand (and easy to love) comedies this year, with nearly every judge selecting it as their top comedy pick. It was also one of the few that managed to get a laugh just off the pitch. I mean, reverse Fresh Prince, good luck not smiling.
Sperling, a graduate of Cornell, previously worked as a writers PA on the Mitch Hurwitz series “Running Wilde”, went through the Fox writers program (maxing out a credit card in the process), and has taken all levels of improv and sketch writing at UCB. Somehow amidst all of that, he also finds time to sit still for a few minutes at a time and write… and do so pretty well in fact. Want to see more funny from Sperling? Check out his web series “Online Daters” (watch it here) which has already cracked the 1 million views mark. But it’s cool, you can still tell friends you were into him before he was a big deal.
