Naomi Watts seems the latest to be offered a role in INSURGENT, the sequel to “Divergent” which was released in March of this year. While most of the cast is already solidified, it seems the producers are going after some last-minute choices before the sequel starts filming in May of this year. Producers have wasted no time getting the next film off the ground, with almost an entire cast already picked.
“Divergent” opened to mixed reviews in March, with both fans of the books and newcomers a bit lukewarm to the adaptation. The film had no problem financially, however, making a worldwide $232 Million from a production budget of only $85 million.
Right now Theo James, Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, Maggie Q, Miles Teller, and Ansel Elgort are all attached to return to the project, and it seems an open casting call is also in progress. Reports indicate that the film will be shot in Atlanta this time around, instead of Chicago where the original installment was filmed.
Robert Schwentke replaced former director Neil Burger for the second installment, but producers Doug Wick, Lucy Fisher, and Pouya Shabazian are all returning. The film will be executive produced by Todd Lieberman, David Hoverman, and Barry Waldman. Jeyun Choi will be overseeing for Lionsgate.
