{TB EXCLUSIVE} Oscar Winner Jared Leto Tackles Civil War Action/Drama “No Blood, No Guts, No Glory”

Leto’s set to star in the leading role as James Andrews, a badass contraband smuggler that’s described as a scoundrel of aristocratic bearing. Indie director David Mackenzie is in talks to direct the action/drama, him being the producer’s top choice. Based on the book, Stealing the General: the great locomotive chase and the first Medal of Honor written by Russell S. Bonds, the film follows a spy and twenty Union raiders who rob a rich Confederate colonel, steal a Confederate train, and face a violent enemy onslaught, all in a last-ditch effort to end to the war. Kevin Misher will produce for his shingle, Misher . Up-and-comer Chase Palmer wrote the screenplay, with Jane Eyre helmer Cary Fukunaga stepping in to co-write.

The civil war drama has been making headlines since 2011, but it looks like its finally moving forward. Both Gavin O’Connor and Cary Fukunaga were previously attached to direct and at one time Robert Downey Jr. was attached to star.

Leto’s often the top choice for layered, emotionally troubled characters. His recent performance in Dallas Buyers Club earned him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Up next, the in-demand actor landed the coveted role of The Joker in Warner Bros upcoming DC Comics adaption, Suicide Squad. Mackenzie recently directed the drama Starred Up, starring rising star Jack O’Connell. Up next, he’ll direct the crime-drama The Stain on the Snow and the thriller The Mission.
