Zac Efron is headed to Sin City. The actor is set to star in a Vegas-based drama, tentatively titled THE VELOCITY OF MONEY. While plot details are being kept tightly under wraps, it is being described as Wall Street meets Cocktail in tone. STX Entertainment is producing and are said to be currently in the process of seeking a scribe for a rewrite. Sheroum Kim will oversee for STX.
Efron has quickly established a reputation as an in-demand talent, with a busy slate including the sequel to 2014’s hit Neighbors, comedy Mike and Dave Need Weddings Dates with Adam Devine, Anna Kendrick, and Aubrey Plaza, and Dirty Grandpa with Robert De Niro. Efron’s been in the news lately, as it was recently announced that he will star alongside Dwayne Johnson in Paramount’s Baywatch reboot, and his DJ drama We Are Your Friends bows on August 28th.
Newly formed STX just marked their first theatrical release with the Joel Edgerton-directed The Gift, starring Jason Bateman and Rebecca Hall. The thriller has proven to be both a financial and critical success, grossing over $16 million on a $5 million budget and currently holding a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Next up for STX is this November’s Secret in Their Eyes, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Julia Roberts, and Nicole Kidman. The studio is also in development on comedy Russ & Roger Go Beyond, based on the lives of filmmaker Russ Meyer and famed critic Roger Ebert, with Will Ferrell and Josh Gad attached as leads.
