Tweetable Takeaway: The proof is in the… Purse? Castle gets his own case during this week’s brand new episode.

Airtime: Monday January 19, at 9/8c on ABC

Last week, returned with the first new episode of 2015. At first, I was a little worried about how they would handle the newly ‘banned from the precinct’ writer. How would his time be spent? Would we ever get any of the playful banter we love with Beckett? What about the funny moments with the boys and Captain Gates? Well, so far, I have been pleasantly surprised. Although cheesy at times, Castle has taken on the role of a PI so that he can still somewhat work with Kate. This week’s episode, though, marked the first episode where they were going to be working separately, with Kate worried about how her husband is really liking this new role, but standing behind him anyways. I’m not 100% sold yet, but so far, so good.

‘Private Eye Caramba!” was written by longtime Castle crew member Adam Frost, and directed by Hanelle Culpepper, and found Castle trying to get his business off ground. He even developed a new, fancy website to attract clients that weren’t actually fans, or people trying to solve his 2 month disappearance (but really, can we solve that already?). Beckett and Martha have a great conversation – loving the scenes between these two lately – about Castle and his adventure, and they agree to just let him play it out. He, in turn, walks Beckett to work, and reassures his new wife that he will be just fine. Who’s heart didn’t break seeing him have to stand outside the yellow tape, after bidding adieu to his ‘honey’? Mine sure did.

The case was interesting, kept my attention, and wrapped up nicely, and I love how one of the stars had ‘lost’ her purse, and Kate sent the case over to Castle. Partners in crime and life, indeed. Funny enough, the purse was the key to solving the team’s case anyways, so it all worked out. The episode also had Esposito showing his true ‘fangirl’ colors, as he unsuccessfully hid his love over Telenova and its stars. Maybe he is turning into a mini-Ryan now too? And of course Ryan and Esposito asking for tickets to a game again, after they save Castle’s life once more from the bad guys.

In the end, Castle figures it all out, and decides to stick with his new persona. For now. I personally give it one more episode.

Some favorite lines from tonight:

-Beckett: “I’m just a girl looking for a private dick” – Come on. It was funny! And totally unexpected.

-Beckett: “Castle, do you realize how lucky you are?”

Castle: “Very. After all, I am married to you.”

Beckett: “Don’t even go there.”

A bit of a prediction. I don’t want them to go the baby route, but do you think this newfound ‘role-play’ love that Beckett seems to have acquired is foreshadow?

Until next time…
