The film is described as a modern Western that stars Thompson as Ollie and James as Deb, two sisters who are driven to work outside the law to better their lives. For years, Ollie has illicitly helped the struggling residents of her North Dakota oil boomtown access Canadian health care and medication. When the authorities catch on, she plans to abandon her crusade, only to be dragged in even deeper after a desperate plea for help from her sister.
DaCosta will direct from her own script while Rachael Fung and Gabrielle Nadig produce. CAA is handling sales.
Thompson’s resume has been rapidly growing in recent years, after starring in the critically acclaimed Dear White People and Selma, she went on to star opposite Michael B. Jordan in Creed and the hit HBO series Westworld. She next stars in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok and Alex Garland’s Annihilation with Natalie Portman and Gina Rodriguez.
James is best known for her work in period projects like the television series Downton Abbey, Masterpiece Theater’s War & Peace adaptation, Pride, Prejudice & Zombies, and in Disney’s live-action Cinderella in the title role. She also stars in the upcoming Baby Driver from Edgar Wright and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
