For the foreseeable future, Universal Pictures will be remaining in the R-rated comedy business thanks to giant hits like Judd Apatow’s Knocked Up, Seth Macfarlane’s Ted, the two Neighbors movies and Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck with the upcoming sex comedy Blockers coming out April 6. Universal has just released a second trailer for the movie which looks even raunchier than the first one.
Maybe that’s no surprise, because Blockers looks like a “greatest hits” of some of the studio’s other R-rated comedies, starring Leslie Mann (from Knocked Up and This is 40), wrestling superstar John Cena (from Trainwreck and Sisters) and Ike Barinholtz (from Neighbors and Sisters).
The high concept premise for Blockers has the three actors above playing parents who learn their daughters have made a pact with each other to lose their virginity at prom, so the parents launch their own secret plan to stop them.
Blockers is the directorial debut by Kay Cannon, who wrote the Pitch Perfect movies and is the creator of Netflix’s Girlboss and was a writer on Tina Fey’s NBC sitcom 30 Rock.
The script was written by brothers Brian & Jim Kehoe along with Jon Hurwitz & Hayden Schlossberg (the Harold and Kumar movies) and Eben Russell. It’s produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver’s Point Grey Pictures (also responsible for Neighbors) along with Hurwitz & Scholossberg and Chris Fenton from DMG Entertainment.
Nathan Kahane and Joseph Drake from Good Universe executive produce with Chris Cowles from DMG, as well as Josh Fagen, Dave Stassen and Jonathan McCoy.
You can watch the new trailer below, and though it’s not a Red Band trailer, it probably took a lot to convince the MPAA to let it play in front of movies in theaters.
