The CW is following a similar strategy as last year, shifting a critically acclaimed series to Friday night to make way for new series. Last year, they moved Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and this year it’s Jane the Virgin‘s turn. On any other network this might be viewed as a bad sign for the future of the series, but considering The CW has never been a slave to numbers the way their competitors are, the shift isn’t exactly bad news. It won’t help Crazy Ex or Jane the Virgin‘s numbers but it allows the shows that rely on real-time reactions from viewers, like the superhero shows, to maintain prime real estate and give new shows a chance to find their audience. High-profile series Black Lightning will debut midseason along with Luce Hale-starrer Life Sentence, The 100, The Originals, and iZombie.
