CAROL has been a smash on the awards circuit this season, and the London Critics’ Circle was no exception. The Cate Blanchett/Rooney Mara period romance earned a competition-high seven nominations for the 36th London Critics’ Circle Film Awards, with Blanchett and Mara both nominated for Actress of the Year. Andrew Haigh’s marital drama 45 YEARS is close behind with six, while MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, THE REVENANT, STEVE JOBS nabbed five apiece.

Tom Hardy leads individuals with three nominations. The versatile thespian was nominated for Actor of the Year for LEGEND and Supporting Actor for his performance in The Revenant. Hardy is also up for British/Irish Actor of the Year for his work in 2015.

The awards ceremony will be held January 17 and hosted by comedians Alice Lowe and Steve Oram.  Kenneth Branagh will receive the Circle’s Dilys Powell Award for his work in British film.
