On Wednesday, the New York Film Critics Circle released their list of the best in film of 2015, with Weinstein Co.’s Carol coming up big, earning Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography. The NYFCCs continued the acceleration of the awards season build-up, as the National Board of Review dropped their favorites yesterday, the Annie Awards announced their list of nominations for the year’s best in animation, and the Academy released a short list of candidates for Best Documentary Feature.

Other NYFCC winners included Michael Keaton, whose role in Spotlight is gaining him plenty of Oscar buzz for the Best Actor category–a particularly compelling race to watch given what many believed was an Oscar-worthy performance in last year’s Best Picture winner Birdman. Pixar’s Inside Out continued its run as the favorite for Best Animated Feature, while the NYFCC honored Laszló Nemes’s WWII drama Son of Saul with Best First Film.
