James Ponsoldt has been tapped to direct the adaptation of I WANT MY MTV at A24. The film will be based on the the book, I Want My MTV: The Uncensored Story of the Music Video Revolution by Craig Marks and Rob Tannenbaum. Ponsoldt and A24 will take over the project which was originally to be written by Jody Lambert and directed by Brett Ratner at Sony Pictures.
The book follows the first 10 years of MTV, the group that founded the company, and how it grew into a integral part of pop culture covering music, movies, fashion, sports and politics. Ponsoldt will also write and produce the narrative feature. Eva Maria Daniels of VisionChaos Productions will also produce alongside A24.
This marks the third collaboration between Ponsoldt and A24. The director and the studio worked together on his critically acclaimed films The Spectacular Now and The End of the Tour. He recently wrote and directed the adaptation of the Dave Eggers thriller, The Circle starring Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.
