The DC movie universe is in talks with Billy Crudup to play Ezra Miller’s father in the upcoming DC actioner THE FLASH. This will not be Crudup’s first go-round with the superhero world as he previously starred in Zack Snyder’s Watchmen as Dr. Manhattan.
In the comics, Barry’s father Henry Allen is married to Nora and was a doctor. When Nora was murdered when Barry was a young child, Henry was convicted of the crime and proving Henry’s innocence became a driving force in Barry’s life as he set out to find the real killer. In the CW-verse, the role is portrayed by John Wesley Shipp, who played the original TV version of the Flash. In the CW series, Henry is a peripheral character lending advice to Barry when needed but recently he was released from prison and killed by the Flash’s nemesis before Barry’s eyes.
This will be the Flash’s first feature starring role in the current universe after appearing earlier this year in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice and next year’s Justice League.
Dope director Ricky Famuyiwa is directing with a script from Seth Grahame-Smith.
Crudup starred in last year’s Oscar-winning Spotlight and The Stanford Prison Experiment. He will next be seen in Jackie starring Natalie Portman and 20th Century Women starring Annette Benning.
