Fox has renewed its Marvel X-Men series THE GIFTED for a second season, the network announced Thursday.
Tthe show follows a suburban couple (Stephen Moyer and Amy Acker) whose lives are changed when their children come out of the mutant closet. In a world where mutants are marginalized, they join an underground network of mutants as they try to survive while running from a hostile government.
Sean Teale, Jame Chung, Coby Bell, Emma Dumont, Blair Redford, John Proudstar, Natalie Alyn Lind, and Percy Hynes White co-star on the show, which presents a world in which both the X-Men and their villainous counterparts the Brotherhood of Mutants have disappeared.
Though the show is set in Fox’s Marvel cinematic universe, The Gifted has not crossed over with the movies or with FX’s Legion.
“One of the great favors that Days of Future Past did for all of us is establish many streams, I guess that one answer is that this is one of those many streams,” showrunner Matt Nix said previously.
Nix executive produces with Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, and Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory.
The Season 1 finale of The Gifted will air Monday, January 15 on Fox.
