The Yorgos Lanthimos-directed drama THE KILLING OF A SACRED DEER starring Colin Farrell has been picked up by A24 at Cannes. This marks the second collaboration between the actor and director who worked together on The Lobster which was also acquired up by A24 last year at Cannes.
Lanthimos co-wrote the screenplay for The Killing of a Sacred Deer with Efthymis Filipou. Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe from Element Pictures will produce while Film4 and New Sparta Films are set to finance.
The story is inspired by a Euripides tragedy and follows a charismatic surgeon named Steven and a teenage boy who wants to bring him into his dysfunctional and fractured family. The teenage boy’s intentions become increasingly evil which forces Steven to make an unexpected sacrifice.
Farrell can be seen next in the Harry Potter spin-off movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with Eddie Redmayne. He is repped by CAA.
A24 is known for its unique slate of films that have arthouse appeal but are still approachable to mainstream audiences. They recently released The Witch and Green Room. Their upcoming films include How to Talk to Girls at Parties with Elle Fanning and Nicole Kidman as well as Woodshock with Kirsten Dunst.
