The Tracking Board has confirmed The Legend of Tarzan writer Adam Cozad is currently in negotiations with Warner Bros. to pen SUICIDE SQUAD 2. David Ayer, who directed and wrote the first film, which came out last August, is not returning for the sequel and no directors are currently attached.
The first film followed a group of villains including Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), and more who are forced into working for the government in exchange for lighter sentences.
While critical reviews for the film were negative, it did make $745 million worldwide by the end of its theatrical run, easily allowing the studio to greenlight a sequel and continue expanding the DC Extended Universe.
There are no plot details for the sequel or word on which cast members will or will not be returning.
Cozad’s first screenplay was 2014’s Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit starring Chris Pine in the titular role and his latest was last year’s The Legend of Tarzan. Currently, he’s penning the most recent draft of Underwater as well as a thriller for Justin Lin and Warner Bros.
He’s represented by ICM and The Gotham Group.
