ABC has pulled its freshman comedy series THE MAYOR from the schedule, effectively canceling it, Tracking Board has confirmed.
This move makes the Brandon Michael Hall-led comedy one of the first casualties of the 2017-18 season, though networks are hesitant now to “officially” call a show canceled, opting instead to pull episodes from the schedule in favor of burning them off later.
ABC employed the same technique for drama series Ten Days in the Valley, pulling it from its Sunday night lineup and later moving it to Saturdays.
The cancellation of The Mayor comes a couple of months after the network gave it a vote of confidence by ordering three more scripts. Those episodes are unlikely to ever see the light of day now.
In a stronger show of support, the network ordered three more produced episodes of new drama Kevin (Probably) Saves the World.
