The CW I guess is no longer chasing the next Gossip Girl. Outside of Dynasty and maybe Life Sentence, these scripts are not geared towards their core non-DC Comic base. Is CW expanding their mission statement? Losing their brand identity? Did a rich uncle die and give them enough money to shoot a pilot that has a ridiculous number of helicopter scenes in it?
Picking the greenlights will be tough. They went with three last year, so I’ll assume they’ll go three again. The safest bets are probably Black Lightning and Dynasty. After that, it’s a toss-up between Life Sentence and Valor. One is cheaper, appeals to younger women, and isn’t as serialized. The other feels like a cable show, is expensive, and maybe has some appeal to the comic book show watchers. My heart says Valor, but my mind says Life Sentence. When in doubt, go with EP Bill Lawrence — I’m picking Life Sentence.
