Sony has confirmed plans to bring the popular books series back to the bring screen as they announce GOOSEBUMPS 2 is in development. Tracking Board exclusively broke the news last fall. They are currently closing deals for director Rob Letterman and scribe Darren Lemke to reteam on the project.
The first film premiered last year and pulled in $80 million domestic and $77 million internationally. The film has also performed well in home entertainment.
Plot details have not been released though it is likely we’ll see familiar faces as the film’s stars Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, and Odeya Rush are already contracted for further sequels. Deborah Forte and Neal Moritz will again produce.
Forte recently teamed up with Universal and Scholastic Media to bring another youth-oriented books series, Spirit Animals, to theaters.
Last month, Letterman signed on to helm the feature version of Dungeons & Dragons for Warner Bros. Lemke just sold his script Arcadia to DiBonaventura. He has many projects in development including Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? and is set to enter the comic book movie world as the writer for DC’s Shazam! starring Dwayne Johnson.
Letterman is repped by WME. Lempke is repped by UTA and Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment.
